If we want to succeed in business, we get to learn how to achieve a goal successfully and preferably faster than other people in your industry because actually following through on all those big plans is kind of a big freakin’ deal. So if you are a female entrepreneur who’s got big goals then let’s talk about five must do steps to make sure you’re making them happen… and all in 90 days.

Watch here or read below.

I want to share with you my foolproof method of setting and achieving quarterly goals.

If you’ve ever heard the Abraham Lincoln quote, “If you give me five hours to chop down a tree, I will spend the first four sharpening my ax.” That’s a little bit what this video is about.

It’s about doing that preparation to make sure that you’re able to set, achieve, reach those goals in 90 days.

I’m not going to ask you to spend 80% of your time on preparation, because that’s just distraction.

I am however going to ask you to walk through some really important, really mindful steps to make sure that you’re getting started on the right foot and that you’re actually setting a goal that can be achieved in 90 days.

STEP NUMBER ONE: GET MORE SPECIFIC

Most goals fail not because they’re bad goals, but because they aren’t actually goals at all.

They’re dreams, they’re visions, they’re big ideas, but there’s not specificity to it. There’s nothing specific saying this is actually what I’m going to be doing or when I’m going to be doing it by.

So you’re probably heard of S.M.A.R.T goals.

The very first letter is Specific.

The second one is Measurable, which I also think is another way of saying Specific.

What I like to tell people to do is to put some numbers behind it, whether that number is a date, a stat, or a percentage.

Put some specificity behind your goals.

An example of this would be if you were to say I want to increase my revenue.

  • Well, by how much?
  • How do you want to increase that revenue?
  • When do you want to increase that revenue by?

If you can say “I want to increase my revenue by 10%“, that’s a great way of being specific. If you can say “I want to increase it by 10% by doing these things“, that’s even better.

So sit down with your goals and make sure that they are Specific and Measurable. Make sure that it’s something that’s actually going to be able to give you a clear path and direction so that you know how to actually achieve it.

And one last thing on this.

Make sure that you’re not setting too many goals at once.

In a quarter, you should really be working on no more than one to three goals.

The bigger the goal, the fewer there are.

The bigger the goal, the fewer you should be working on at one time. Click To Tweet
STEP NUMBER TWO: CREATE YOUR M.A.P

M.A.P or Massive Action Plan. And really what this is is a giant brainstorm of all the different ways that you can move yourself forward in this goal. Now, this may be really specific steps, or it may just be a brain dump of ideas.

So for instance, if your goal is to increase your revenue by 10% but you’re not sure yet how you want to do that, you’re going to do a massive brain dump of all of the possibilities.

You’re not going to judge them. You’re not going to think about how they’re going to get done.

You’re just going to brainstorm, put everything down on paper until you have one big, gigantic list of ideas that you could potentially attack.

What are all of the ways that you can make this happen?

When you have that list, you’re then going to go back and prioritize it. The way that I like to do this is to just circle a few of the things that are going to give me the biggest impact.

Remember that 20% of your actions are going to create 80% of your results, so look for the things that are going to give you the biggest bang for your buck. Circle those and start there.

20% of your actions are going to create 80% of your results. Choose wisely. Click To Tweet

STEP NUMBER THREE: BREAK IT ALL DOWN

I heard someone refer to these as “lazy goals” and I think I’m going to steal that because I love the idea of having such small tasks on my list that it almost seems lazy.

So instead of make more money, it’s going to be call two people, or send one email. Or whatever you can do to break it down into such small tasks that you can get them done in 5, 10, 15 minutes.

This helps you to overcome procrastinationating or feeling overwhelmed because you’re looking at such tiny tasks. It does take a little bit of time to break all this down, but it’s sooooo worth it when you get to your calendar or your to-do list that day, and you know exactly what to do.

It’s little stuff, you check it off, it’s fun, it’s easy. You’re seeing progress every single day.

If you do this planning ahead of time you’re not going to be spinning your wheels week by week trying to figure out what you should be focusing your energy on now.

Once you have it all broken down next step is to time block it.

If you’re not familiar with time blocking, be sure to check out my video on time blocking.

The reason it’s important to time block is because it’s going to show you that you actually do have enough time for all of these ideas on that massive action plan. You’re going to start with the big ones first, and if you have additional time to fill it you can start pulling in some of those other ideas.

Or, if you try to put in the big ideas and you realize you don’t even have time for those, you may find that you need scale back a little bit. You might need to outsource a little bit more or get creative with how you’re going to get things done.

This is going to give you a realistic view of what you’re going to be able to do in the next 90 days, so make sure that you actually time block for it.

STEP NUMBER FOUR: FAILURE PROJECTION

Step number four might be my favorite

It’s one that was taught to me by one of my coaches, and that is Failure Projection. Basically, what you’re going to do is project yourself into the future.

You’re going to say, “It’s 90 days from now. I did not hit my goal. Why? What happened?

You’re going to do another giant brain dump of all of the possible things that happened to stop you from hitting your goal. The reason that I love this is that allows us to actually do effective planning for potential obstacles, barriers, or challenges.

So many people will not do this because they think that if they focus on the negative, they’re going to create it. No, I’m sorry. That’s not what happens.

What you’re going to do is be able to be proactive about potential challenges. So if you know “Hey, my kids tend to get sick this time of year and that’s what I projected threw me off my path“, that’s going to be something that you’re going to be able to get creative with before it happens. Figure out, “How can I keep them health or what can I do, what can I have put into place already to make sure that we can keep moving even if they do get sick“.

This kind of proactive planning is crucial.

It’s not a negative Law of Attraction.

You’re not going to create any of these negative things by planning and being proactive for them.

STEP NUMBER FIVE: CHOOSE YOUR MINDSET

Step number five is to choose your mindset, to choose the right mindset.

What I want you to do is ask yourself in order to reach this goal:

    • Who do I need to be?
    • How do I want to feel?
    • How can I create habits or routines that will help me to feel this way?
    • What mindsets, habits or beliefs do I need to overcome?
    • How can I start to work on that now?

This is important to do because if we’re not approaching this from a mindful place, understanding that personal growth will be a part of achieving these goals. A lot of times we get stuck on the same bad habits, same patterns, same limiting beliefs that we’ve always had that we’ve always gotten stuck on.

So ask yourself this…

  • What is the mindset that I need to have going into this?
  • How can I create that mindset?
  • Who do I need to be?
  • How can I practice being that person?

Asking yourself these things are going to help you actually stay on track to reach and achieve this goal.
