This Book Quietly Made Me a Millionaire…and I Kinda Regret It

You know how people say one book changed their life? For me, this one actually did.

Not in an overnight success story kind of way. Not with a viral idea or some lucky break. But in a quiet, consistent way that nobody saw coming, including myself.

And honestly, there is a part of me that almost regrets it. Not because the book was wrong, but because it worked a little too well.

If you are a solopreneur or service provider feeling stuck, bouncing from strategy to strategy, or just waiting for your “big breakthrough,” I want to share the book that finally got me out of that loop. It helped me not only build a profitable business but also create long-term wealth, stronger relationships, and a better life overall.

👉 You can watch the full YouTube video below to hear the whole story, or keep reading for the highlights of how The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson changed everything for me.

Life Before The Slight Edge

Before reading this book, I had no real habits. I could be consistent for a month or two, but eventually I would fall off track or chase a shiny new idea.

It was like swinging an axe at a tree but changing spots with every swing. Sometimes even changing trees altogether. I was busy but going nowhere, living the same year five times instead of moving forward.

I believed structure would kill my creativity, that discipline was boring, and that success came from bold moves, not boring routines. I was wrong.

The Graphic That Changed My Thinking

There is one graphic in The Slight Edge that hit me like a gut punch. It showed two curves, both flat at first before shooting off in opposite directions.

The point was simple but life-altering: every choice you make is moving you forward on a trajectory. You are never standing still. The results do not show immediately, but they compound over time.

The food you eat. The conversations you have. The habits you practice or neglect. Each one nudges you onto a path that becomes obvious years later.

“What is easy to do is also easy not to do.” That was the line that stuck with me.

Structure, Habits, and Freedom

Around the same time, I had a conversation with a swami about freedom. I told him freedom was what I wanted most in life. He told me, “The chaos you are living in is what is robbing you of your freedom. Structure and self-discipline are what clean up the chaos.”

Between that moment and The Slight Edge, I had no more excuses. I stopped resisting structure. I leaned into what I now call “success habits.”

Consistent outreach. Following up. Practicing sales conversations. Building procedures. Going to bed on time. Doing the boring, unsexy, daily reps.

It felt different almost immediately. Within six months to a year, I started seeing real results. My revenue climbed from about $60K a year to $295K a year in just two years.

Building Wealth and Stability

The changes did not stop at business. My husband and I applied the same mindset to how we managed money. We saved, invested, and focused on long-term outcomes instead of instant gratification.

Over the past decade, that discipline has helped us build a multi-million-dollar net worth, two businesses we love, and a marriage that is stronger than ever.

The Shadow Side of Discipline

So why do I sometimes say I regret it?

Because when you get really good at discipline and momentum, you can forget to ask if what you are chasing is still aligned with what you want.

I have built a multi-seven-figure consulting business. But I found myself chasing milestones like a seven-figure year without ever stopping to ask why. Was it truly about impact, or was I just addicted to the climb?

This is the shadow side of self-discipline: doing the right things, but sometimes for the wrong reasons.

The Cautionary Tale

The Slight Edge made me a millionaire, but here is my caution for you. Do not just chase the numbers. Do not get so locked in that you forget to stop and ask what really matters now.

Build with purpose. Stay aligned with your values. And if you are struggling with consistency or resilience, read this book. It is not flashy, but it is the real deal.
