.Ask most entrepreneurs what their first major win was—and they’ll tell you it wasn’t a massive launch or going viral. It was making that first $1,000.
That first $1K is more than just money in the bank. It’s proof of concept. It’s clarity. It’s confidence. And most importantly? It’s momentum.
But how do you actually get there?
In my latest video, I break it all down. If you’re a visual learner, click below to watch the full walkthrough on YouTube. Or keep reading for the four steps to hit your first $1,000 in business.
Step 1: Know Your Numbers
You can’t hit a goal you haven’t defined.
To make $1,000, you need to know how many sales that means based on your price point. Simple math:
-
Selling a $100 product? You need 10 sales.
-
Selling a $10 product? You need 100 sales.
Take a second to do the math for your own offer. This is the foundation for everything that follows.
Step 2: Pick a Sales Method That Fits YOU
Not all sales methods are created equal—and not all are right for where you are now.
There are two main approaches:
🔹 High Touch Sales
These include:
-
Sales calls
-
Webinars
-
DMs
-
In-person events
High touch = more time investment, but much higher conversion rates (anywhere from 10% up to 70%+ with the right skills and trust). This is great for beginners looking to generate quick cash with fewer leads.
🔹 Low Touch Sales
These include:
-
Sales pages
-
Video sales letters (VSLs)
-
Ads
Low touch = less time from you, but lower conversion rates (often 0.5–5%). They rely on things like:
-
A compelling offer with strong perceived value
-
Social proof (reviews/testimonials)
-
Strong sales copy that mirrors a sales conversation
📊 Example: If your conversion rate is 10% and your offer is $100, you’ll need 100 leads to make $1,000. But if your funnel only converts at 1%, you’ll need 1,000 leads.
That’s why I typically recommend starting with high-touch sales. You need cash first. Then we build out scalable, lower-touch funnels once you’ve got some stability.
Step 3: Find Leads Without Spending a Dime
You only have 3 options when it comes to getting leads:
1. Connections
Think: outreach, referrals, networking
-
✅ Fast
-
✅ Cheap
-
❌ Time-intensive
-
❌ Not scalable
Perfect for getting cash in the door quickly—especially if you’re newer and need to build relationships and proof.
2. Content
Think: social media, YouTube, blogs, podcasting
-
❌ Slow to start
-
✅ Cheap
-
❌ Time-intensive
-
✅ Scalable (when done well)
Content takes patience and consistency—but over time, it becomes your unpaid sales team.
3. Ads
Think: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube ads
-
✅ Fast
-
❌ Expensive
-
✅ Scalable
-
⚖️ Steep learning curve
Ads are the fastest and most scalable, but require budget and trial-and-error. That’s why I suggest using them only when you’ve validated your offer and have capital to test.
🔁 There’s no perfect option—only what works best for your time, budget, and skill set.
If you want to hit your first $1K fast? Start with connection-based outreach. Talk to people. Ask for referrals. Get visible.
Step 4: Identify the Skills You’re Missing
Finally, ask yourself: What skills do I need to make this happen?
If you’re leaning into high-touch sales, you might need to learn:
-
Sales conversations
-
Handling objections
-
Relationship marketing
If you’re leaning into content or ads, you might need:
-
Copywriting
-
Marketing strategy
-
Funnel building
-
Audience research
The fastest path = using the skills you already have.
The sustainable path = building the skills you’ll need to grow.
You don’t just want to make your first $1,000. You want to keep going beyond it—and that means closing your skill gaps as you go.
